Atmosphere:

The Wilderness Lodge is built as a replica of the old Lodges out West.  It is massive inside with its huge open lobby and the fireplace with seemingly endless stone chimney.  The Villas are an extension of the Lodge and have their own entrance and Lobby.  The theme of the Villa Lobby is similar to the of the main building but it has a focus on trains as they were an important passion and hobby of Walt Disney.  There is a cozy game room with checkers and chess for a rainy day or you can cuddle up in the big chairs in front of the fireplace.

The main lodge:

There is a convenience type store within the souvenir shop in the Main building of the Wilderness Lodge that sells items like over the counter medicines, frozen dinners, bread, milk and other convenience items along with all of the other Disney souvenirs and some that are unique to the Wilderness Lodge.

Dining:

The Wilderness Lodge offers 3 different dining opportunities.

One is the counter service dining area called “Roaring Forks”.  This is the location to go to for quick service dining opportunities throughout the day.  They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner cafeteria style and are open all day for snacks in between.

The “Whispering Canyon Café” is a unique dining opportunity offered at the Wilderness Lodge.

I won’t let you in too much on the secrets of this fun and rowdy dining venue because I wouldn’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t been.  The food is served family style or a la carte and you can eat breakfast or dinner there.  If you really want to embarrass someone, take them here for a birthday meal!!!

Artist Point  is the fine dining option at the Wilderness Lodge.  They serve dinner starting at 5:30 P.M..  The specialty here is salmon and the menu can change frequently but the portabella mushroom soup and berry cobbler are always delicious.  They also offer a vegetarian selection and some for the carnivores also such as the buffalo steaks.  They have a great wine selection and a romantic, calming atmosphere.

There is also a pretty large menu that you can order room service from.  They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Late night hunger can be satisfied with a room service pizza.  Its delicious!!!

AMENITIES:

Many amenities are offered at the Wilderness Lodge and the Villas.  The main pool offers a slide and two hot tubs, not to mention a great view.  The quiet pool over by the villas is just that– quiet and a little more private.  There are many fun things to do at the Lodge.  We always enjoy taking a walk over to Fort Wilderness for a little exploring.  It isn’t out of the ordinary to see some wildlife on those trails.

The carriage rides over at Fort Wilderness area also great fun and they even have sleigh rides at the lodge during the holiday months.

You also have the opportunity to rent bikes and boats

This resort tends to be a favorite of many people….it is not likely to disappoint!
